La Celle
- History and heritage:
The village boasts a monastery known as the Abbey of La Celle, once a female priory, founded by Benedictine monks in the 11th century.
The village became independent in the 11th century from the town of Brignoles, whose lord was none other than the prior of the monastery, Pope Marcel II.
The writer, André Gide, came to stay regularly on his property, where inspiration came naturally to him thanks to the serenity that reigns in this village.
- The location: 219 m above sea level, 4 kilometers from Brignoles, the village is located in the Caramy valley, a river in the Var which rises at an altitude of over 450 meters south of Mazaugues and which flows into Argens in Carcès.
Located between the Candélon massif, vineyards and wooded hills, which gives it a special light, La Celle is a village where life is peaceful.
