Aups

- History and heritage :

Once called Oppidum, the village was occupied by the Oxybians during the Roman period, on the site of the Saint-Marc plateau. Julius Caesar passed through there in order to conquer Gaul, saying "I prefer to be the first in Aups, than to be the second in Rome"

Traces of this Roman presence can be seen in the military markers and the old hospita


- The situation :
Situated at the gateway to the Verdon, on the first foothills of the Alps, at an altitude of 500 metres, Aups is at the foot of the Espiguières mountain, a tufa rampart pierced by numerous caves, and watered by the Grave torrent and by numerous springs flowing into the town's fountains.
At 60 kilometers from the sea and 80 kilometers from the first ski resorts, the climate is very healthy, Mediterranean climate.
There are several ways to get to Aups:
by the departmental roads RD22 from Cotignac, RD9 from Moissac Bellevue and RD557 from Draguignan
Les Arcs TGV station: 45 minutes
Toulon/Hyères airport : 1H30

- Living in Aups :
2134 inhabitants named the Auxois. Many shops, restaurants and bars enliven the village.
The vegetation of Aups is essentially composed of Aleppo pines, holm oaks and olive trees in the plain.
