Tavernes

- History and heritage :


From the 18th century, the village's economy developed around the production of wheat, olives and wine. The village has 2 oil mills, a coal factory and 2 cloth factories.
At the beginning of the 20th century, numerous small boxite mines were developed. In total, about 30 miners will work on the different exploitations.

Located near the town of Barjols to the north, 26 kilometres from Brignoles and Sainte Maximin la Sainte Baume, Tavernes can be reached via the D554 or the D71.

The doors of the houses around the church are different in size, shape, colour and knocker, each with its own identity.
Notre Dame de Bellevue to the north of the village and the site of the 3 crosses which marks the limit of the 3 communes facing the Bessillons, Fox-Amphoux facing the Pre-Alps of Digne and the plateau of Valensole and Montmeyan facing the Verdon massif.
Journado de l'Oli : In Tavernes, olive trees are the order of the day. Each garden, each restanques, has some on more or less large plots. The precious golden nectar is thus produced in quantity. Every year, in March, the new oil is celebrated.
Guided tour of the mill, tasting of the new olive oil, local products, folklore activities, demonstration of olive tree pruning and of course aïoli monster are on the agenda.
